I'm sitting with friends in the sun, at a table outside Ojai Coffee Roasting Co.
My cell phone rings. It's Stephen. He's going to join us.
I give him directions: "Turn left, honey, turn right, and look for us on your left. We're at the first table in front of the door."
We see Stephen. He is walking toward us, then right past us, concentrated on some beautiful thought probably, oblivious. Now he's getting ready to cross the street.
We yell, "Stephen!"
He turns, walks back, and joins us with a smile. For him, for all of us, all ways lead to, and are, the right place.

Dear Katie,
I got to see you in person from the audience in Seattle Friday night. It was quite a treat for me, as I cannot afford to attend any of your events or School, so an evening for $20 was an amazing opportunity!
I was too shy to ask my question then so perhaps you can answer sometime on your blog when you have time.
The 4th question often brings up huge anxieties for me, quite the opposite of the peace it seems to bring others. Here are some of my answers to "Who would you be without that thought?"
I'd be worse off. I'd be stupid. I'd be irresponsible! I'd be getting away with it. I'd be ignorant. I'd be vulnerable and taken advantage of. I'd be alone and invisible. I'd be boring! I'd accomplish nothing.
Admittedly, this shows some very strong attachment to my thoughts, attachments out of fear.
With gratitude,
S
